Yarn Scheepjes Bookazine: Romance - Behind the scenes

​The new Scheepjes Bookazine can be ordered from today.
The theme this time is Romance.
For this edition I designed the Beatrix blanket, crocheted with Scheepjes Whirl Blackberry Mint Chip, Scheepjes Whirlette Plum and Scheepjes Whirlette Tangy Olive for the border.

I would like to take you through the process, from notes to blanket.

So the theme is Romance and I thought it would be a cool to make a blanket inspired by that old-fashioned damask wallpaper.

Ik wil jullie graag meenemen in het proces, hoe deze deken tot stand kwam.

Het thema is dus Romance en het leek me daarom een uitdaging om een deken te maken die geïnspireerd is op van dat ouderwetse damast behang.

​I started looking for inspiration on the internet and found this one very beautiful.
So I worked this out (online) on squared paper.

Ik begon met inspiratie zoeken op het net en vond dit figuur erg mooi.
Dus werkte ik dit (online) uit op ruitjes papier.

Then I started with the samples.
Does the pattern look nice as I want?
Do I use single crochets, half double crochets or double crochets?
Which yarn will I use and in which color combination?
With which crochet hook does the stitch come out best, and does the blanket has a nice drape?
How big are the motifs and how do I divide them?
All things that take at least as much time as crocheting itself...

​Daarna begon het proefhaken.
Komt het patroon mooi uit zoals ik het in mijn hoofd heb?
Gebruik ik vasten, half stokjes of stokjes?
Welk garen ga ik gebruiken en in welke kleuren combinatie?
Met welke haaknaald komt de steek het mooist uit, en valt de deken mooi soepel?
Hoe groot worden de motieven en hoe verdeel ik ze?
Allemaal zaken die minstens even veel tijd in beslag nemen als het haken zelf...

Crocheting itself was a bless to do!
Of course you have to write everything along and pay attention, but because of the combination of yarn and pattern I wanted to keep crocheting.
The blanket became so much better then I thaught it would!

Het haken zelf was een feestje!
Natuurlijk moet je alles meeschrijven en goed opletten, maar door de combinatie garen en motiefje wou ik maar door blijven haken.
​De deken werd mooier en mooier!

Because the theme is Romance, I wanted to give the blanket a lace edge.
Very different from what you are used to from me, but it makes it fit nicely I think.
I chose a bright color border, to make it a bit more modern and a bit rebellious.
The whole has become a timeless blanket with a Romantic character

Omdat het thema Romance is wou ik de deken een lace randje geven.
Heel anders als jullie van mij gewend zijn, maar het maakt het wel af vind ik.
Ik koos heel bewust voor een knalkleur rand, ik vond dat wel van nu en een beetje rebels.
​Het geheel is een tijdloze deken geworden met een Romantisch karakter

I also wanted to show you this photo.
Not only is it nice to see if something is on the block mats, because then you know that it is almost ready.
But you can also see our Christmas tree in the background.
You can now imagine how long the process is from design until the magazine comes out.
Indeed, that takes about a year!

De foto hierboven wil ik je zeker niet onthouden.
Niet alleen is het leuk te zien als iets op de blockmatten ligt, want dan weet je dat hij bijna klaar is.
Maar je ziet ook een kerstboom op de achtergrond.
Je kunt je nu voorstellen hoe lang het proces is van ontwerp tot dat het magazine uitkomt.
Inderdaad daar gaat ongeveer een jaar overheen!

 
Finally, I want to share 2 of my favorites with you.
This Scarf from Nerissa (MIss Neriss) !!!
I think we were inspired by the same thing, and I love to see how we came up with 2 very different projects.
This one is so soft around your neck!

And then this belt by Kirsten Ballering (Haak Maar Raak)
Do you remember that she was the designer of the Scheepjes CAL of 2017.
She came up with that beautiful scarf with all those figures that we were allowed to embroider on it.
The same idea is now reflected in a beautiful belt.
If I had the body for it, I would certainly have made it as an eye-catcher on a simple black dress!

Als laatste wil ik jullie 2 van mijn favorieten delen.
Deze Sjaal van Nerissa (Miss Neriss) !!!
Ik denk dat we door hetzelfde zijn geïnspireerd, maar hoe leuk is het dan om 2 heel verschillende projecten te zien.
Ik denk dat dit een kadootje is voor rond je nek!

En dan deze ceintuur van Kirsten Ballering (Haak Maar Raak)
Weten jullie nog dat zij  de Scheepjes CAL van 2017 ontwierp, die mooie sjaal met al die figuren die we erop mochten borduren.
Hetzelfde idee komt nu terug in een mooie ceintuur.
Als ik het figuur ervoor had, had ik hem zeker gemaakt als eyecatcher op een simpel zwart jurkje!
